Medicare Supplement market leader UnitedHealthcare (UHC) released 4th quarter 2017 financials on January 16th, adding 30,000 Medicare Supplement lives in the 4th quarter, an 67% increase from the lives added during 4th quarter 2016.  The UHC enrollment table features Standardized and Modernized policy in-force counts of 4,445,000 as of 12/31/2017, a 180,000 increase in the past 12 months.  The 180,000 lives growth in 2017 a 4.2% increase over the in-force lives at year-end 2016.  The 30,000 lives increase in 4th quarter 2017 marks two straight quarters of lives growth in excess of the corresponding quarters of the previous year, the first time that has occurred since 2013.

Enrollment in the Medicare Supplement market has grown steadily since 2008 and UHC continues to be the clear leader in the market, capturing over 30% of total market new sales and in-force policies in 2017.
