Q3 2020 Highlights:
- Operating Revenues was $30.6 Billion, 15.9% Growth over the prior year driven by higher premium revenue due to growth in Medicaid and Medicare
- Benefit expense ratio was 86.8% in the third quarter, a decrease of 40 basis points from 87.2% compared to prior year Q3 Anthem explains the decrease was a result of deferred healthcare utilization due to COVID-19 and the return of the health insurance tax in 2020.
- Overall medical membership totaled approximately 42.6 million members at the end of 3Q 2020, a 0.4% increase compared to June 30, 2020.
Medicare Supplement lives in Q3 increased by 12,000 lives compared to end of Q2 2020 and 40,000 compared to the prior year Q3.
Medicare Advantage membership of 1,416,000 as of 9/30/2020, a 50,000 increase compared to the end of the Q2 2020 and 213,000.
