What Is a Data Feed (and Why Does It Matter)?
For over 15 years, CSG Actuarial has been the industry leading voice in the Medicare and senior market for data and quoting.
The data infrastructure behind some of the industry's most competitive carriers, marketing organizations, and agencies — and at the core of that infrastructure is a robust suite of data feeds and API access points that can be plugged directly into your own systems.
Whether you're a carrier benchmarking your product portfolio, a marketing organization building a proprietary quoting platform, a researcher in the field or a technology team developing a custom application/tool, CSG Actuarial has the data you need — delivered the way you need it
What Is a Data Feed (and Why Does It Matter)?
A data feed is a structured, recurring delivery of insurance data sent directly to your system on a schedule you define — daily, weekly, or on-demand. Rather than logging into a portal and manually exporting information, your team receives the data automatically, ready to be ingested into your own databases, models, or applications.
CSG Actuarial's data feeds are used by leading insurance companies, IMOs, and technology platforms across the country. They are fully customizable: you specify the product lines, states, and carriers you care about, and CSG delivers a clean, structured dataset on your timeline.
API Access: Plug Directly Into the Source
For organizations that need real-time data integration, CSG Actuarial offers secure API access to its database. Rather than receiving scheduled files, your application queries CSG's data layer directly and retrieves current and future rates, underwriting details, and plan information on demand.
This is the same data that powers CSG's own MarketAdvisor quoting tools — which means you're working from the most accurate, up-to-date source available in the market. The API is built for teams with their own development resources who want to build custom quoting, pricing, or analytics applications on top of reliable, carrier-sourced data.
API documentation is available upon request.
What Data Is Available?
Rate Data — Current, Future, and Historical
At the heart of the CSG data offering is premium rate data. CSG tracks current, previous and future rates across more than 500 insurance companies nationwide. For carriers and analysts, this means you can benchmark your products against the full competitive landscape — not just the companies you know about.
Notably, CSG now includes rate data for Medigap carriers that are no longer actively offered in the marketplace, giving product teams a fuller historical picture for pricing analysis and actuarial work.
Product Lines Covered
CSG's data feeds and API cover the following senior market product lines:
Medicare Supplement— rates, underwriting, plan features, enrollment eligibility rules, and household discount parameters.
Medicare Advantage — plan-level data for comparison and drugs.
Final Expense Life — rates and underwriting details.
Term Life — rates and underwriting details.
Index Universal Life (IUL) — rates and underwriting details.
Hospital Indemnity — benefit details and rates
Senior Dental — plan comparisons and rates
For Medicare Supplement specifically, the feed includes the Medicare Supplement Rules Report, which provides enrollment and eligibility parameters — critical for agents quoting in complex guarantee issue or open enrollment situations.
Underwriting Data
Rates alone don't tell the whole story. CSG's data feeds include underwriting conditions — the health questions, tobacco status rules, height/weight tables, and other criteria that determine whether a client can qualify for a plan and at what rate. This is the data that separates a useful quoting tool from a truly competitive one.
Financial Data
CSG provides access available at both the state and national level. This includes:
Covered Lives — the number of Medicare Supplement policyholders per carrier
Market Share (%) — each carrier's share of the market in the prior year
Premium — total premium earned by the carrier
Loss Ratio — the ratio of claims paid to premiums collected
This financial data is invaluable for product development teams assessing competitive positioning, pricing actuaries evaluating loss experience, and sales leaders identifying which carriers are growing or shrinking in a given state.
Custom Data Feeds: Your Specs, Your Schedule
Not every organization needs the same data. CSG's Custom Data Feed option lets you define exactly what you receive:
Product lines: Choose one or many from the full list above
States: Target the geographies relevant to your business
Carriers: Narrow to the companies you compete with or distribute for
Delivery frequency: Daily, weekly, monthly, or on-demand — you set the cadence
This flexibility makes CSG's data feeds practical for both small regional carriers building a focused pricing model and large national organizations maintaining a comprehensive competitive intelligence database.
